Same story, over again
Never gets old
yet the soul wears thin
To tell of the heart's desire
To tell of the man
I just want him to want me she says
over and over again
The years roll by cutting deep like a knife
While the core becomes empty, empty, empty
Where is the girl that was there
The one with the dangerous stare, the flair
The one with the reckless heart
who gave freely and loved with total abandon
In a trap, a snare, a dangerous dare
Fear of loss, of the loneliness, the silence of the night
A trap within ourselves, our mind, our desire, our soul
It steals, it kills, it makes time stand still
Do we spend it like this?
Until we are an empty shell, staring into the abyss

Thin and frail
Eyes the color of pale blue sky
Flash and dart as they tell the tale
Mistakes were made
Or maybe not
Life moves in a rhythm
Who really knows
She tells of the love of her life
There will never be another
So sure of this One
He’s never left her side
His commitment true,
Relentless like fire
Tears run down her face as the story unfolds –
The greatest love story ever told

It Left a Mark (Plea for Mercy)
Responsibility was written all over his hardened face, hands calloused and rough, slumped shoulders broken beneath the weight of life’s toils and brokenness; a man never knowing the boy living inside
The years took their toll now evident in the crooked gait
Back-breaking labor, the self-induced punishment for the lies dispensed at the hands of wicked anger taken out on the boy; a broken world placed on his shoulders; shoulders never meant to carry the burden; the millstone around the wrong neck
Ignorance of it all, a continued phenomenon, an epidemic suffered in the silent pauses in family conversations drowned out with endless activities of days all meaningless prescriptions for the flesh-eating emptiness
His tone still rings out with a hollow confidence of functionality despite the grasping for words crippled by the can of vice
Doing right by all, giving every bit of himself, everyone knows his name, knows who he really is to become. Does he?
Protected by a hand unseen to the eye; near misses dispensed regularly and yet he doesn’t ask why
A dream of the future, a dream of yesterday remains despite the sense of duty and honor living for those around him.
Awaken my love, awaken the boy inside. It wasn’t your fault.

Frigid Contemplation
Frigid cold consumes the day
snow and ice crippling the way
Under its weight, broken and withered
No creature, no nature escapes its wrath
Each shivers, shaking, bowing low
Exposed to unpredictable elements on high and below
Preparation and knowledge could not provide
what was missing inside
Contemplation reside
Bringing forth all that hides
Under the weight of the frigid
Overcome by tension
The mind at attention
Shrinking back or rising up under the frigid
